Leesburg's city manager position has been vacant for about a month and council members have narrowed down the final three candidates to fill the position.
Lee County's Planning Director, Bob Alexander, is one of the top candidates.
Officials say they are looking for someone who has either a master's degree in public administration or someone with experience in a managerial position.
Ray Rabun of Griffin, Georgia and Franklin Etheridge of Lafayette, Georgia are also in the running for the job.
"We've got background checks being done now. That takes about ten days and once they are back, the council will meet as a whole and we'll go it and make a decision," said Debra Long, Leesburg Mayor Pro Tem.
Leesburg council members say it may take a few weeks before they choose the final candidate.
