      Lee County School Board member announces retirement

      Long time Lee County Board member Robert Clay announced he will not be on the board after this term.

      Clay is retiring from the school system.

      Clay first came to Lee County in 1935 as a student.

      Then in 1952 he became a board member, followed by becoming superintendent in 1965.

      He returned back to the school board in 2003.

      Clay says, "we have a much larger system much more diverse student body and we've changed."

      As a whole Clay has spent 24 years on the school board.
