      Lee County fire caused by illegal burning

      The Lee County Fire Department and Georgia Forestry Commission responded to a fire Thursday afternoon in Smithville.

      A supervisor with the Lee County Fire Department told FOX 31 it took several hours to put out the fire.

      According to officials with Lee County Code Enforcement the fire was found to be caused by illegal burning. The fire started in a field and spread to the woods.

      LCFD says the Georgia Forestry Commission will be the agency handling the incident.
