Lee County fire and EMS services to be consolidated
In a 3-2 vote, the Lee County Board of Commissioners decided on Tuesday evening to consolidate their fire and EMS services.
Commission Chair Rick Muggridge says members will now try to use the new contract to look for any efficiencies, strengthen their ISO rating by having more responders on the scene and also have a better relationship with those in the lesser covered areas.
"All of those thing are what I'll hope are the results of this contract that we'll broaden the area that we provide coverage to and deliver fire protection to and we'll increase the number of Lee County citizens that benefit from it."
Muggridge says those who are near retirement or are not able to perform both duties will still keep their jobs because they're hoping to fill the spots on a volunteer basis.
