The Lee County School Board met Monday evening and approved a waiver that could increase class size.
Members unanimously approved the 'Adopt Class Size Waiver' and Lee County Schools Superintendent Dr. Larry Walters says the move was proactive. Before the waiver existed if a classroom went over capacity by one student the school system had to hire another teacher. Knowing that the school system is facing a strict budget like many other systems, officials say signing the waiver is a move they're making just in case they experience a capacity issue this school year. "This gives the school system the flexibility if we would be up in a given grade or a given class that we would not have to go out and hire an additional teacher" says Walters.
The Lee County School Board also unanimously voted to extend Superintendent Dr. Larry Walters contract by another three years.
