Imagine going into the hospital for surgery, and leaving a quadriplegic. A Southwest Georgia man claims that happened to him and now he's suing Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for thousands of dollars according to legal paperwork.
According to the documents from the civil lawsuit, William Dueitt claims Phoebe was negligent in his double coronary artery bypass surgery recovery. The lawsuit also alleges that after surgery, Dueitt experienced complications that led to additional surgeries including multiple amputations, rendering him a quadriplegic.
FOX 31 News reached out to Phoebe for a response to this lawsuit and Rick Smith, Phoebe Corporate Director for Public Relations and Marketing issued a statement. "In response to the civil lawsuit filed by plaintiff, William E. Dueitt, attorneys for Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital and Phoebe Physician Group, Inc. have filed pleadings denying the allegations. We will not comment on this case. However, we can share that Phoebe's employees and the physicians who treat patients here are committed to providing the best possible care to all our patients."
