Labor Dept. gives H.R. crash course to employers

Some Albany area business owners got a crash course on human resources practices.

Some Albany area business owners got a crash course on human resources practices.

Officials from the Georgia Department of Labor spoke to the employers at Albany Technical College.

The seminar focused on issues and rules like overtime and giving sick pay to employees.

Experts say it's important because a lot of small business owners have never had H.R. training.

"A lot of the problems that they face are just a lack of knowledge, because they don't really have the budget to have their own H.R. person," said Beth Lane of the Albany Area Employer Committee."So they as employers have to know the entire business. So these types of seminars really help get the information they need to help them answer their own questions when they are running their payroll."

The Labor Department plans on having more seminars on various topics. For future dates call the Department of Labor at (229) 430-5010
