      Keeping your heart healthy

In honor of Heart Health Month, a cardiologist from Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital gave some reminders on how to keep your heart pumping and healthy.

Dr. Mark. Cohen says aerobic exercise at least three to four times a week is critical. It doesn't have to be intense aerobics. Cohen says a three mile walk in under an hour is great for your heart and health. He adds staying away from greasy foods and including fish in your diet at least three times a week are a must.

Above all, he stresses three key tips. Cohen said, "To not smoke, smoking is linked critically to both heart attack and stroke, secondly is watch for blood pressure and make sure your pressure is well controlled, thirdly one of the most important things is control of cholesterol."

Cohen adds cholesterol checks should start at age 25, and a person should regularly checked every five years to see if cholesterol is normal.
