The City of Albany Animal Control with the Albany Police Department reminds residents about the leash law.
According to Animal Control Agent, Autumn Lowrey, a dog has to be on a leash or under voice command of a competent person at all times. If you're dog is on your property without a leash, that's considered ok. However, if the dog is suppose to be on the property and leaves that's considered a violation. Additionally, you are allowed to walk your dog without a leash but they have to stay in close proximity to the owner.
The leash can only be ten feet or less.
A citation can be given to residents who have venturing dogs. Technically your dog can be on your property without supervision but Lowery says supervision is urged at all times.
Reoccurring citations can lead to jail time.
