An Albany man is having to clean up a big mess he started along the street.

Michael D. Sanders was ordered by a judge to either pay $500 or clean up trash for a mile along the street.

This comes after he illegally dumped trash along Brookhollow Road.

Julia Bowles with Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful says the man's actions are costing taxpayers.

"Often, if we cannot catch who has been the perpetrator, we have to send city crews out and so we have to pull them off of the job they're on and have them go out and clean up. It costs every citizen in Albany," Bowles said.

Bowles says citizens in Dougherty County can dump up to 250 pounds of trash at the landfill each day for free.
