Judge delays Phoebe-Palmyra merger

Judge Sands orders that no additional steps be taken in the Phoebe-Palmyra transaction

Judge W. Louis Sands with the Federal Court in Albany granted the request by the Federal Trade Commission that the merger of Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital and Palmyra Medical Center not move forward in their transaction.

The complaint that was filed Wednesday remains sealed.

On Wednesday, he Georgia Attorney General's Office filed a joint complaint with the FTC seeking to delay the merger of Phoebe Putney and Palmyra, saying the buyout violates federal antitrust law.
