Interim President named for Albany State University
A new Interim President has been named for retiring President Art Dunning at Albany State University.
Marion Fedrick will start on the job February 1.
"Marion has done an outstanding job leading the institution’s transition and a team of representatives from Albany State and the University System of Georgia,” University System of Georgia Chancellor Steve Wrigley said. “Marion has been instrumental in the launch of special initiatives focused on the needs of students and the regional workforce, and I am excited about the progress being made. On behalf of the University System, I want to thank Marion for her leadership and her commitment to ensuring Albany State University is positioned for long-term success.”
From day one, Albany State students, faculty and staff have eagerly and candidly shared their thoughts, concerns and ideas for ways the institution can innovate for the future,” said Fedrick. “We have had a strong start, and I’m truly inspired by what the future holds. I want to thank the students, faculty, staff and the community for all their support and genuine enthusiasm for what Albany State can become with all of us working closely together.”
Fedrick has previously served as vice chancellor for human resources at the University System of Georgia. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Georgia.
The following letter was released by Albany State University Friday morning:
Dear Campus Community,
I am very honored to have been named interim president, effective Feb. 1, 2018, and I would like to share with you some thoughts as I take on my new role at Albany State University.
From day one, everyone here has made me feel welcomed. I want to thank the campus community for all your support and genuine enthusiasm for what ASU can become with all of us working closely together.
I would also like to express a profound appreciation to President Art Dunning for his leadership and guidance as we continue to transition and prepare for a new president. President Dunning has led the University during a pivotal time in its history and made significant progress through our consolidation. We will build on the momentum he began to position the University for long term success.
Students, alumni, faculty, staff and community leaders have eagerly and candidly shared their thoughts, concerns and ideas for ways the institution can grow and innovate. I am appreciative of this feedback, and the willingness I have seen from faculty and staff to be open to change that will benefit our students.
This commitment and dedication is what will move Albany State forward to better serve the local community and the Southwest region of our state.
At yesterday’s board meeting, University System of Georgia’s Chancellor, Steve Wrigley, recognized the good work and progress already being made. He also reinforced the University System’s commitment to the success of ASU.
We have had a strong start and I’m truly inspired by what the future holds.
Interim Executive Vice President of ASU
