Today marks the kick-off for archery season here in Southwest Georgia and hunters are gearing up for what should be a great year.

Those that specialize in selling hunting equipment say archery season is unique, in that it offers some unique opportunities for hunters.

"Well you know the beginning of archery season, the deer isn't scared. Nobody's putting pressure on them, so you really have a good opportunity to get a nice deer at the beginning of archery season," said Jackie Sizemore, Owner of Backwoods Outdoors in Lee County.

Sizemore also added several safety tips for hunters, such as staying hydrated as summer winds down and watching out for snakes and mosquitoes.
