How safe is the Flint River?
With the recent case of a flesh-eating bacteria in a nearby town, the question was brought up about how safe our own Flint River is here in Dougherty County.
FOX 31 spoke with Gordon Rogers, the Flint Riverkeeper, who said right now the Flint River is very safe to swim or get in; they have a group of paddlers going down the river from Warwick to Bainbridge who have been testing the water throughout their journey.
The only areas that came up a little "spotty" as Rogers said was in the mouths of the tributaries (the small creeks.)
Rogers says these areas aren't as safe because of the low-flow problem; he says if your favorite creek or swimming hole looks low it's best not to get in the water.
