A guest speaker at Darton College spoke to students about HIV and AIDS this morning.
Kate Goodin is epidemiologist for the Florida Department of Health and an expert on the disease.
She says college students are a great audience to teach about HIV.
"The more you talk about some of these sensitive topics, the more comfortable people get with them and the more often you are able to have frank and honest discussion about some of these issues especially about some of those sensitive topics that we were talking about, there is a greater chance that they will bring it us with their physicians," said Goodin.
Goodin says the southeastern portion of the country has the highest proportion of people infected with HIV.
