High temperatures aid firefighter training
The Albany Fire Department isn't letting this week's high temperatures stop them from training.
Firefighters converged on the Albany Fire Department Training Center to run through a variety of drills and scenarios.
Do to excessive heat, firefighters have to take a 5-10 minute break between exercises. During the break, firefighters are reminded to hydrate.
The hot temperatures actually make the training more realistic says Senior Firefighter Roderick McKenzie: "They always taught us to drill the way we train. So the heat, if someone's house is burning we can't have the heat be a factor. So you gotta' do what you gotta' do."
That being said the fire department will be taking the month of July off from training.
