The wait for high school football in Southwest Georgia is almost over.
Official padded practices can start August 1st, as long as players have logged five days of conditioning. On those days, the kids are equipped with just a helmet and mouthpiece.
"Right now we're doing some inside conditioning where we'll lift weights for an hour to forty-five minutes," Albany High School Head Coach Felton Williams said. "Followed by that, we'll come outside and do some on-field conditioning, which will entail wearing helmets and going through some plays."
While players are anxious to get regular practices underway, they are making the best of all their preseason repetitions.
"We're working very hard and pushing it to the limit every day," Albany senior Shydarrius Jackson said.
