Hide your keys and lock your doors

The Dougherty County Police Department is sending an important message to all residents.

They say, within the county, car break-ins are one of the most committed crimes, especially in the summer.

Captain Tom Jackson, with the Dougherty County Police Department, says one reason may be because school is out and more and more people are looking for quick and easy ways make some fast cash.

"You have to realize that we don't live in a day and time when we don't leave our valuables un-secure in even your own driveway you may feel safe, but you leave your vehicle unlocked the opportunity still arises and becomes a crime, so the thing we try to preach to people is practice safety al the time," said Jackson.

He adds that most of the auto break-ins are done at night and by juveniles or young adults.
