Heavy police activity blocks Cedar Avenue
UPDATED AT 2:00 A.M.
After learning he was hiding in the attic, officials tried to negotiate with Lamons to surrender. When he refused, officials decided to use gas to force him out of the home. They put canisters inside the home and when their first attempt was unsuccessful, the Albany Dougherty SWAT Team Commander Tim Hanington says they went a step further. "We went to a little different method and we brought gas in through the vent and shortly after that, he made contact with us and surrendered" says Hanington.
Lamons was arrested shortly before 2 a.m. and faces multiple charges including aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon,and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
UPDATED AT 1:20 A.M.
Wednesday evening, multiple police officers executed a search warrant at 416 Cedar Avenue to search for Cherry Avenue shooter, Antwan Ronnell Lamons.
Five adults and one infant were removed from the house safely and APD believe that Lamons is still inside.
ORIGINAL STORY AT 12:45 A.M.
Multiple Albany police cars, unmarked cars, two ambulances, two Albany Dougherty Gang Unit cars and one fire truck are blocking off the 400 block of Cedar Avenue.
Neighbors tell us no one has been taken to the hospital and they're not sure what is going on.
APD Detective Schemika Foster is one of the officials on scene and says they aren't releasing information at this time, however they will make an official statement soon.
