School is almost out for the summer and the last thing on the minds of children is reading.

The Dougherty County Library has released their summer reading list and event guide to keep children's minds engaged over the next three months.

The summer events kick-off on Monday and will include live music, mad science, storytelling, paper airplanes and more.

Krista Dixon says that it's important to have children read because, "kids who don't read during the summer actually lose two months of their instructional academics during those three months. Kids who do read over the summer will actually advance a month or more ahead."

For more information head over to the Dougherty County Library website or contact Krista Dixon, at the Northwest Branch, by phone at 229-430-3208 or by email kdixon@docolib.org.
