In Monday night's Dougherty County School Board meeting commissioners voted in favor of requesting a 65 percent hardship waiver from the state.
The state law requires that school's use 65 percent of its budget towards classroom instruction.
If granted, the hardship waiver would exempt the school system from having to give 65 percent towards classroom instruction.
More than 60 percent of Georgia schools ask for the waiver every year.
