Handgun pulled on father after son's cell phone stolen

Albany police are investigating after a stolen cell phone leads to a man being assaulted with a handgun.

Police say that around 8 p.m. Wednesday night, Malik Malone was playing basketball at Carver Gym when three black males took his cell phone and told him he'd have to fight for it to get it back.

Malone told officers he went home and got his father, General Jones.

Jones went to the gym and told the suspects to return the phone. They refused and pulled a handgun on the father, then stuck him in the back of the head with it.

The suspects fled the scene afterwards.

This case has been turned over to the Gang Unit for further investigation.
