      Grant enables new classes for Dougherty County Pre-K

      Officials with the Dougherty County School System has announced that a grant awarded to the Dougherty County Pre-K program will allow for new classes to be taught over the summer.

      DCSS officials say that the grant awarded by the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning will allow them to host two of the state's 126 six week Summer Transition Program classes at Sylvandale Center.

      The program is intended for rising kindergarteners who did not attend Georgia's Pre-K, Head Start, or attended, but will need additional support to be successful in the kindergarten program next year.

      The program is set to begin on Monday, June 3rd and end on July 12, 2013. Applications can be made at the Sylvandale Pre-K Center at 1520 Cordell Ave. from 8:00 â" 4:00, Monday through Friday. The families selected for the program must be eligible for Child and Parent Services (CAPS) through the Department of Early Care and Learning.
