Graceway helps prep for July 4

Graceway recovery residents pick up trash in downtown Albany

Women living in the Graceway Recovery Residence are helping the city get ready for the Fourth of July celebration.

The women, who are all recovering addicts, picked up trash downtown all morning and afternoon. Graceway Development Director Liz Dixon says giving back is a process in the residents' recovery.

"Giving back and service is an integral precept of the 12 step methodology. The girls came up with this in order to give back," Dixon said.

The downtown Fourth of July celebration starts at 4 p.m. Saturday on Front Street near the Civic Center.
