Thu, 03 Apr 2014 01:20:45 GMT — Good news for drivers to know when they hit the roads.New numbers from the Georgia Department of Transportation show traffic deaths on state highways have fallen for the 8th year in a row.Last year they recorded 1,186 deaths. That's 13 fewer than the year before.Sgt. Dana Harnage with Georgia State Patrol hopes this trend continues."It helps make the job easier. We don't have as many crashes to work and it's always easier to work a fender bender than it is a major crash where there are fatalities or really serious injuries."
Despite the drop in vehicular traffic fatalities, GDOT says the number of cyclists and pedestrians who were killed on state highways have both risen.
