Keeping young girls away from at-risk activities was the topic at Tuesday's Rotary Club lunch.
Lakisha Bryant was the guest speaker. She runs Girls Inc., an afterschool and summer program for girls.
She says it is critical to educate young girls, particularly when they are between the ages of 9 and 14.
"If you can keep girls on the straight path, keep them involved in great activities during the middle school times you're more likely to keep them away from at risk behaviors during those teen years," said Bryant.
Last year girls inc worked with about 2,300 girls at their facility and through outreach. Part their budget funding came from the rotary club.
