The City of Albany just hit a windfall courtesy of a bicycle promotion organization.
According to a press release issued by the City of Albany, it was awarded a $5,140 bicycle signage grant from the organization Georgia Bikes! Funding for the grant comes through the State of Georgia's "Share the Road" License tags.
The application was submitted through a collaborative effort between the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), the Office of the Downtown Manager and the Planning Department. The local bicycling advocacy group the Pecan City Pedalers was also engaged in the process according to the release.
The route which runs from Slappey and 3rd Ave. east along 3rd Ave. to N. Van Buren St. and along 2nd Ave. past Phoebe to the Riverfront Trail was selected through an examination of feasible alternatives found in the Regional Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan, produced by the Dougherty Area Regional Transportation Study (DARTS) MPO in April of 2011.
