Georgia is among the top states to have the largest pool and spa drowning cases.

According to a report from the Consumer Product Safety Commission, drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional deaths for children.

The report says Dougherty County is the only county in Southwest Georgia with the highest death rate.

Experts say to avoid so many deaths, you should stay close to your child, keep them away from pool drains, pipes and teach them to respect the water.

Jeff Demott, Aquatics Director at the Albany Area YMCA says, "don't go into a situation where you don't know what's under the water you're going to dive into the water, do you know how deep it is, do you know if it's any obstructions rocks, logs things like that so we have all kinds of associated issues with water safety."

The report adds white males ages 15-24 had the highest death rate from drowning.
