GDOT warns drivers about road repaving
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is warning drivers of some road repaving projects that will be taking place over the next few months.
The first phase of the project started Monday on U.S. Highway 82/Oglethorpe Boulevard.
This could affect drivers' morning and evening commutes because the first phase will take place from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. over the next three weeks.
The second phase will take place in the beginning of March and those hours will be 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. to minimize the impact on local businesses. The third phase will include the same hours in April or May.
When the project is complete, roughly 12 miles of roadways will be repaved on Oglethorpe Boulevard and North Slappey Boulevard, according to GDOT District Communications Officer Nita Birmingham.
Birmingham says the roads are deteriorating and the last time it was repaved was about 15 years ago.
