GDOL will assist Lee County Board of Education with recruitment

The Lee County Board of Education is holding a recruitment to find employees to fill 20 immediate openings in the Leesburg school system

The Georgia Department of Labor's (GDOL) Albany Career Center will assist the Lee County Board of Education recruit employees next week to fill about 20 immediate job openings with the school system in Leesburg.

"We are willing to work with employers in every area. Anything that's going to help stimulate the economy and this is what the Department of Labor does. We open up our doors and we also go to where the employer is to help with recruitment," says Betty White, Manager of the Albany Career Center.

The recruitment will be held Thursday, July 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Kinchafoonee Primary School, located at 295 Leslie Highway in Leesburg. Applicants must come prepared to fill out an application and have a short interview, which White says includes being professionally dressed.

The public school system will be hiring full-time mechanics and substitute school bus drivers, food service workers and custodians. Substitute positions are not permanent positions, but those hired for have the chance of becoming permanent employees.

"Full-time positions may not be readily available; if there are part-time positions then that would just be a great thing for a person to apply for the part-time position in hopes that it will become a full-time position," says White.

All applicants must be willing to submit to a drug screening test and criminal background check by the employer.

Applicants for the mechanic positions must have a high school diploma or a general equivalency diploma (GED) and one year's mechanic experience or be a recent graduate in mechanics at a technical college. They must also have a valid driver's license and a clean motor vehicle record (MVR).

Those who apply for the substitute bus driver positions must be at least 21 years old, have a valid driver's license, and a clean MVR. Applicants with a high school diploma or a GED are preferred for the bus driver positions.

A high school diploma or GED and food service experience is preferred for the substitute food-service worker positions.

Custodial experience is preferred for substitute custodian positions.
