GBI investigating Coffee County Jail inmate death
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is helping look into the death of an inmate at the Coffee County jail over the weekend.
GBI officials say that they were requested by the Sheriff's Office to assist.
According to the GBI, 28-year-old Shannon Rewis developed medical issues while being booked into the jail on Friday. He was taken to Coffee Regional Medical Center and died at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Rewis’ body was taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Macon for autopsy.
