Gang shooting was accident, police say

Dontavius Laster, 20, was arrested and charged Sunday for his role in the accidental shooting.

Albany Police have arrested one man after a gang shooting over the weekend that was first reported as a drive-by, but has now been determined to have been an accident.

Dontavious Laster, 20, is charged with reckless conduct after the gun accidentally fired from his hand, striking Justin Harvey, 17, in the pelvic area.

Harvey, who is recovering at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, is charged with gang participation and giving a false statement among other charges.

Harvey initially told authorities that he was walking down the Joshua and Tremont Streets when three black males pulled up next to him, firing from a handgun, and shooting him in his pelvic area.
