GA Dept. of Labor receives $70 million dollars
Georgia Department of Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond says it's his responsibility to ensure that unemployment benefits are paid to eligible unemployed people in a timely manner.
Unemployment is on the rise in Albany and all across the state of Georgia, and we aren't the only state to receive federal funds to assist with unemployment.
"At least 24 states and the Virgin Islands have already received federal advances. The availability of availability of interest free federal advances will allow us to avoid imposing sharp across the board employer tax increases in the midst of an ongoing recession" says Thurmond.
The Georgia Department of Labor also noted that it is predicted that more than 40 states will apply for the federal grants to assist paying unemployment benefits in 2010.
