Freezing temperatures cause gas leak
Albany fire fighters and WG&L are on scene at MARS Corporation North America in South Albany due to a propane leak.
Chief Jordan with the Albany Fire Department tells FOX 31 that that MARS has two 25,000-gallon propane tanks for emergency use.
One of the tanks is leaking, but not at an alarming rate.
MARS Chocolate North America Corporate Affairs released a statement to FOX 31:
The safety and wellbeing of our associates and the community is our first priority. Our associates at our Albany facility discovered a minor propane leak and immediately shut down the line. The fire department arrived onsite immediately and have confirmed the facility safe. We appreciate the rapid response from the local authorities.
It is believed that the leak is caused due to a relief valve that froze due to the freezing temperatures.
WG&L is off-loading what's left over in the leaking tank to another tank.
At this time Jordan says that there is no danger and no evacuations have been made.
