Moultrie Technical College is celebrating literary appreciation week to finish off September.

The Southwest Georgia school is providing several opportunities this week for residents to take the practice GED test, free of charge.

Officials with the program say making this available is vital in any community but especially here in Southwest Georgia.

"We've got over 19,000 people who are ages 25 or older, who do not have a high school diploma or GED. So that's approximately 26% of our population. And as we know the greatest thing holding back our economic development is the absence of a literate workforce," said Moultrie Technical College spokeswoman, Melissa Burtle.

That test will be provided this coming Thursday, September 26th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on the MTC Tifton campus and the MTC Moultrie industrial drive campus for adult learners.
