First Lady honors Reach Scholars
There are officially five new REACH scholars in Colquitt County as of Wednesday,
Wednesday morning was the 2017 REACH Colquitt County School System signing day.
A packed gym of middle school students welcomed the honorees.
Five 8th grade students were selected based on their grades, work ethic and attitude.
Each student has to abide by a contract. They must keep good grades and stay out of trouble.
If they don't break the contract - they will receive up to $10,000 in scholarships to attend college in Georgia.
First Lady Sandra Deal addressed the large group highlighting what plays a role in the future for the middle school students.
Deal said, "Education is that important to your future and everybody has an opportunity to get an education in Georgia."
On top of their scholarship they all received a jeresy that reads 'reach scholar' on the back.
It has the number 22 to represent the year they will graduate from high school.
