When Melissa Childs was in second grade, she admired her teacher so much, she decided that one day she would be a teacher too.
She has been living this dream for six years now and currently teaches first grade at Lamar Reese.
Childs likes to help her students learn by having them move around to centers that have different learning activities set up.
"I feel like the more they move, the more they are going to not get so bored and they'll retain the information" said Childs.
The students enjoy the movement, especially the songs, rhymes, and beats they perform to remember lessons.
First grade student, Kierston, told FOX 31 that everyone knows Childs is a great teacher "I'm not surprised she's teacher of the year, anyone would pick her!"
Childs' feels very honored and humbled to have been selected as a nominee for the Dougherty County School System Teacher of the Year and said it's always been a dream of hers.
"I love coming to my job, I can't see myself doing anything else" said Childs.
