Fatal silo accident in Mitchell County
UPDATED ( 9:15 PM):
The Mitchell County Sheriff's Office confirms to FOX 31 that the victim is Joshua Fulghum.
The Mitchell County Sheriff's Office, OSHA, EMS and the Coroner were called to Southwest Georgia Ethanol after lunch in reference to an accident in Grain Silo 1630.
SWGE President Murray Campbell confirms to FOX 31 over the phone that an 'incident has taken place and is currently under investigation.'
Investigator Melvin Ray with the Mitchell County Sheriff's Office says that after speaking with witnesses, three men started working at 12:45 PM. The accident took place around 1:15 PM.
At the grain silo, one person rakes or sweeps the milo inside, another shovels and the third is an attendant, or supervisor, that stands just outside the hole.
The victim, a younger white male in his upper 20s, early 30s was in the silo raking the milo seed to unclog the auger, went to step over it, slipped and was pulled under and killed. The supervisor ran 60 ft to hit the kill switch and a call was made for help.
Investigator Ray confirms with FOX 31 that "pending an autopsy, as of right now it's a tragic accidental death."
The victim's name has not been released at this time.
