Famous Albany athlete touches the sky
Local authors gathered at Albany State University to sign copies of their books, including Miss Alice Coachman Davis, who was the first African American woman to win a gold medal at the Olympics.
The event, coinciding with black history month, was sponsored by the ASU bookstore.
Several authors were there, signing and talking with students.
Coachman Davis herself was there with her book, "Touch the Sky", about what led her to win the gold in the high jump at the 1948 London Olympics.
She said she had a piece of advice for students at ASU.
"Stick to your guns is all I can tell you, don't let no one turn you around," says Coachman Davis.
If you missed it Wednesday, the book is on sale at the Albany State University bookstore.
