The Albany Area Chamber of Commerce says downtown businesses do not think the closure of the Broad Avenue bridge will have a negative affect on commerce.
Chamber President Catherine Glover says that pedestrians and drivers can access the downtown business district via the Oglethorpe Bridge which "is actually the most heavily used bridge anyway by two and a half times according to our traffic department."
The Albany Police Department has issued a warning that any pedestrian caught crossing the bridge will be subject to arrest.
