Four Dougherty County Jail inmates have earned their GEDs and celebrated their achievement Friday at a ceremony.

The program between the jail and Albany Technical College began back in 2012 and Sheriff Kevin Sproul says they are hoping education helps decrease recidivism rates.

In 2013, 12 inmates from the jail received their GED. Some of the men went on to help others work towards receiving their degree.

Family members showed up to Friday's ceremony to give words of encouragement as they witnessed their loved ones accepting their certificates.

Those earning their certificates include LaMontae Brown, Courtney Green, Brian Harris, and Otis Myers.
