All Dougherty County retiring teachers and school based Teachers of the Year were honored at a special dinner Tuesday evening.
For the past week FOX 31 News has highlighted all eight of the finalists in our special "Class Act" series. Lamar Reese Magnet School of the Arts Stephen Davis won the Dougherty County Teacher of the Year award.
Dr. Valerie Thomas, Principal of Lamar Reese says her philosophy about teaching math changed after observing Davis teach. "He's fun, he makes it real, the kids not only understand it, but they want to learn more. I am elated he won the award" says Dr. Thomas.
Davis says he's amazed he was chosen out of all of the fine teachers in Dougherty County.
Davis will represent Dougherty County in the 2012 Georgia Teacher of the Year competition.
