Dougherty County resident finds a mortar while mowing the yard

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to detonate the mortar.
Thu, 19 Jun 2014 22:30:11 GMT — A resident on Broach Avenue found a surprise when mowing the lawn Thursday afternoon.According to Dougherty County police, the woman scraped a ten inch military-grade mortar while mowing her backyard.After talking to her husband about the device, she called Dougherty County Police.Police and the Albany Fire Department responded, and vacated that home and the next door neighbors.The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to detonate the mortar.Stay connected to MySouthWestGA.com as the story develops and the FOX 31 Newscast at 10 p.m.
