Dougherty commission hot seat up for grabs

Early voting has wrapped up and voters will head to the polls again this upcoming Tuesday.
Gloria Gaines and Christopher Cohilas are running for the seat of Dougherty County Commission chairman to replace Jeff Sinyard.
Tommy Coleman, Attorney for Perry and Walters, says the chairman leads the county just as a mayor leads a city.
"It's the chairman's job to be able to build a consensus among the commission so that you can forge one policy out of six ideas," said Tommy Coleman, Perry and Walters Attorney.
Tommy Coleman acts as council to several counties in southwest Georgia. He says each commissioner fights for their district but the chair has to see all sides especially when there are millions of tax dollars on the line.
The sheriff's office, jail, county police, and court system are all funded through the commission.
