A dog is dead after a domestic dispute and his owner's boyfriend is accused of the crime.
Jerome Carter has been indicted on charges of aggravated cruelty to animals and simple battery.
Carter allegedly got into an altercation with his girlfriend back in April. Police say during the fight he allegedly pushed and kicked the woman.
In retaliation, she threw his shoes out the house. Police say this is when the suspect took her dog and maliciously threw him against the wall.
The small terrier-mixed dog died as a result of his injuries.
"It's a felony under Georgia law and there was probable cause and the grand jury has indicted him. Of course he is still innocent until we go to whatever proceedings in terms of trial," said Greg Edwards, Dougherty County District Attorney.
Greg Edwards says animal domestic violence cases are happening more frequently.
If convicted, Jerome Carter could face up to five years in jail.
His court date has not been set at this time.Stay connected to MySouthWestGA.com as stories develop and the FOX 31 Newscast at 10 PM. Visit us onãFacebookãandãTwitterãto join inãon the conversation and connect with FOX 31!
