Holidays are typically spent having cake or a party with family and friends but this holiday, local doctors are celebrating by giving back to local charities.

Doctor's Day is recognized on March 30th but due to it falling on a weekend this year, doctors are celebrating Thursday.

Doctor Steve Kitchen presented The Anchorage and St. Clare's Center with a donation for all of the hard work and dedication done over the years.

Kitchen says that "part of being a professional is the aspect of being able to give back. The doctors are delighted to be able to do that."

Executive Director of The Anchorage tells FOX 31 that they "operate on no federal or state funds so everything comes from charitable donations. It's gifts like this one and it's gifts like churches, foundations; that's what keeps this place running 365 days a year."

Typically, doctors from Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital give checks to one or two charities each year.
