DNR gives boating safety tips
The Department of Natural Resources is reminding the community to be safe while out on the water.
Game Warden David Jones said to make sure you always wear your life jacket.
According to Jones, there's always a chance a boat can flip over, so you should always have a float plan.
He said you should watch the weather to avoid being caught in a storm. If it does storm while you're out on the water, get out immediately.
"Get off the water especially if it's lightening,” he said. “Find a house to get to, get in somebody's yard. Do whatever you have to do to get out of the water."
If you do get lost, Jones said you should have a flash light to help make it easier to come find you.
