The Moultrie Police Department started their first Drug Dropbox Program.

The drug drop box was placed in front of MPD and allows residents to properly dispose of prescription drugs and ointments.

MPD properly disposes of the drugs by incinerating them. Patrol Supervisor, Sergeant Lynn Johnson, says this is a preventative measure. Johnson says when you flush drugs it gets into the water system and can harm wildlife. He adds this may also help with teens or youth getting a hold of drugs.

The drug dropbox was funded by Nation Association of Drug Diversions Investigators and provided by the Georgia Dept. of Behavioral Health.

The drug dropbox will be out Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm of next week.
