Deputies hook fishing bait thieves

Deputies recovered $4,000 of $13,000 in stolen fishing tackle

Dougherty County Sheriff's investigators say they've recovered $4,000 of stolen fishing tackle and lure.

Capt. Craig Dodd says 34-year-old Lisa Merritt and 30-year-old Timothy Littlefield stole $13,000 in fishing supplies and tried selling it to local bait shops. Dodd says the two stole the merchandise from DJ Plastics Company in Georgetown, GA. A local bait shop owner turned Littlefield and Merritt into the sheriff's office.

Chances'R Bait & Tackle owner Ginger Howard also bought stolen goods from Merritt and Littlefield, and says she was very surprised when deputies told her the fishing supplies were stolen.

Littlefield and Merritt are charged with two counts of theft by deception and theft by receiving stolen property.
