The Department of Corrections looked for Southwest Georgians to fill a couple hundred job openings they have.

Ten different prisons — Autry, Calhoun, Dodge, Dooly, Lee, Macon, Pulaski, Rutledge, Valdosta and Wilcox — were represented at the job fair at Albany Tech on Tuesday.

The event was a one-stop shop, where people could apply, interview and get offered a job all in one day. They also had to take written and physical examinations — including a push-up, sit-up and mile run test — as part of the process.

The department said they’re always looking to fill openings, but some people don’t realize the variety of jobs they do have.

“Not only do we have corrections officers, but we have correctional lieutenants and sergeants,” said Gregory McLaughlin, warden at Macon State Prison. “We have counselors, nurses. And so we get an opportunity to meet people and try to encourage them to give the Department of Corrections an opportunity.”
